It has been believed that opossums must be tube-fed formula directly into their stomach until they can learn to eat on their own around 75 days. However, research has shown that this method may not be necessary. While opossums do not have the ability to suckle, they can swallow effectively.  This method allows for feeding without the risk of aspiration, as the epiglottis naturally seals the esophagus from the trachea at birth until about 75 days.

We are excited to offer an alternative to tube feeding with the the Opossum Bulb Nip.

Our Bulb Nips:

  • Only need to be inserted into the back of the mouth to advance the formula slowly
  • Allow the opossum to breathe and swallow at the same time, limiting the risk of aspiration
  • Have an insulating factor because they are made with 100% food-grade silicone
  • Are an alternative approach to tube feeding
  • Arrive sterile and ready to use with no initial washing required
  • Can easily be cleaned and sterilized

      Love the opossum nips

I recently saw these at the NWRA symposium. I decided to buy the assorted pack and give them a try as an alternative to tubing.

I love them! My team is loving them too. Some of my people are not trained to tube and these have been invaluable to us this season as it is raining opossums in my area! I’m actually ordering more
